I think so. This is why i think Facebook (and fan pages), even though it lacks in scale, is most times a better way to communicate.
Over time, will Twitter lists go the way of the number of Followers? People creating bots to boost their popularity.
As a Middle School Teacher, I see so many parallels to this idea of followers vs influence both in the classroom and in social situations.
"No. of lists and lists you're on are much better indicator of influence than Twitter followers" is right on.
